ORNAMENT SNEAK PEEK - PART 2

Above are the final 3 ornaments from a special order that I have been working on for a customer. Aren't they gorgeous. My son called them "jewels" this morning and that is what they look like. The color in person is extrordinary! They will be paired with the ornaments below.

Can you just imagine how an entire tree will look decorated in all of these! Many of the styles have sold out for the year. I was able to get my hands on these:

About as yummy as it gets! I can see this mercury glass candycane hanging from a chandelier. It picks up light beautifully!

This is the most gorgeous shade of aqua almost Tiffany Blue! The almost exact shade of my dining room. may have to have some of these!

The icicles are so beatiful in person. I was blown away as I unpacked them! Simple elegance.

A stunning silver mercury glass ornament with glass glitter. I am in love...

Last but definitely not least, the cutest little pinecone you ever did see! Made to look like vintage silver mercury glass and meaures a very petite 1 1/2". I just adore these!

By weeks end these and others will be available at tinselshop.com. If you would like to reserve anything you see here or have any questions email me at tammy@tinselshop.com.

Hope you are having a great week. One week until Thanksgiving, I can hardly believe it!

Best wishes,
Tammy

TURKEY INSPIRATION

My very favorite all-time fall centerpiece in my all-time favorite dining room. I will share more in another post. That chandelier! I have spent countless hours looking for it and when I found it I was crushed, if I recall it was $10,000 or so... Photo courtesy of Seasons of Cannon Falls

We made a turkey last weekend. Yes, I know Thanksgiving is next week but we were in the mood... call it a test run if you will... A few years ago we discovered how amazing a turkey is when cooked in a convection oven. In less than 2 hours a 10 lb turkey is done! We ended up with one of the most flavorful and moist turkeys we have ever done. If you are doing Thanksgiving for the first time or looking for simple give this a try.

-Preheat convection oven to 325 degrees

-Rinse and dry the turkey

-Rub with extra virgin olive oil and sprinke with coarse sea salt and fresh ground pepper

-Place in roasting pan on a rack with 4 coups of water and one can of chicken broth

-Baste from the pan often (every 30 minutes or so)

We took our 1o pound bird out after 2 hours but it probably would have been ready in an hour 45. Usually we rub the turkey with butter, sage, and salt which is also good. Our new recipe is amazing. If you give it a try let me know. I have had turkey that has been marinated, brined, roasted with vegetables and this was by far the best! I am sure it would work in a conventional oven if you increase the temp, time, and baste more often. There are tips all over the internet.

Reserve the dripping and juice from the pan to make gravy. Tip: We always have a jar of gravy on hand just in case! Some of our best gravy's have been when we have combined homemade and jar gravy. This time we didn't need to add anything but better safe than sorry.

For the a simple stuffing try:

- 2 Bags Peppridge Farms Cubed Breadcrumbs (1 Herb Seasoned and 1 Sage and Onion - used together you get great flavor) - I like to reserve a half bag or so until the end in case it gets too moist.

- 1 stick unsalted butter (salted is fine if it is all you have) - melted (you can use more if you like)

- I like to add a bit more sage, a matter of taste

- A generous amount of onion flakes (minced onions are fine too, my mom doesn't like onions so we use the flakes for the flavor)

- 1 1/2 cartons (32 oz each) chicken broth. I start by pouring one carton in and letting sit for a few minutes so that the bread can absorb the juice. I then continue to add broth and the remaining crumbs until it is a desired texture. We like it when at least some of the cubed breadcrumbs still hold their shape and some are mushy.

-Bake uncovered in a buttered caserole in a regular oven heated to 350 degrees for about 45 minutes. I like when the top is a bit crispy and it is moist underneath.

Super easy and delicious!

What are your Thanksgiving food traditions? We are pretty basic, turkey, dressing, cranberry (jellied from the can), sweet potatoes of some kind, a vegetable, and dinner rolls.

Best wishes,
Tammy

THANKSGIVING INSPIRATION

Here are a couple things I came across today while planning my Thanksgiving Table.

Photo from MARTHA STEWART
I have been wanting to do a burlap runner
and when I saw this stenciled turkey I was in love...

These trukey placecards are adorable and
seem super-simple to make.

I just LOVE the idea of doing an Americana
themed Thanksgiving, one year I will. Country Home
(oh how I miss that magazine...) did a feature last year
with some great projects click here to see more.

Have a great Thursday!

ADVENTURES IN POTTY TRAINING

So here I am day 3 of potty training. The girls (2 1/2) are NOT ready. The idea of not wearing a diaper was very confusing to them. Monday morning Kate was doing great an accident but she was heading to the potty and didn't make it. Emma was defiant as ever and protested the whole concept. I stayed patient with them even when she brought me a soccer ball covered in poop. Yes, you read correctly a SOCCER BALL COVERED IN POOP. I am in the bathroom with Logan and Emma comes to me holding the ball with a nice surprise.

I ask: "Emma, did you do this?"
Her reply: "No"
I ask: "Did Kate do it?"
She says: "No Mommy, Hop Hop did."
(Hop Hop is Emma's faithful stuffed companion)
IT WAS DISGUSTING!

Here we are day 3 and Logan is doing great. After multiple tries I think we got it this time. The girls will just have to wait. I thought maybe once they saw Logan doing well they would jump on board too. Maybe next week.

Well enough potty talk for one day...

Best wishes,
Tammy

COMING SOON - I PROMISE...

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. If you are looking for the ornaments they will be up by midnight tonight.

We are in the middle of potty training 3 toddlers...only 7 accidents so far... We are going cold turkey. After trying different things with little success we decided no more diapers (except for bedtime). Wish me luck! One is doing great, one ok, and one is not cooperating...

Best wishes,
Tammy

CHRISTMAS 2008

Last year I didn't get a chance to share our Christmas decorations. Here is a peek at some of what I did last year.

Our old house was very small and with 3 little ones I decided to put my tree up to discourage little fingers and for my own sanity... This worked out great! My tree is actually a 6 1/2 feet. I removed the bottom portion of the tree and placed a wedge into the stand to make it fit tight. I am not a huge fan of traditional tree skirts so I used a very inexpensive snow blanket tucked around the bottom. Instead of gifts under the tree this also allowed me to tuck some of my favorite decorations under and around. I really liked how it turned out, I may do this again.

Here is Christmas morning and Santa was able to drop everything right there and the stockings were hung from the cabinet.

One of my favorite Santa's by Penny McAllister for Seasons of Cannon Falls. The kids LOVE him! If you like him too, he is available here.

This was one of my favorite things last year.
It is 2 mercury glass compotes, and a large candle ring. The ring wasn't quite big enough to fit around the bottom of the top piece so I simply cut it. I hesitated to do it but thought why not, it can always be wired back together. I then sprinkled everything with fake snow and scattered the ornaments.

My feather tree decorated for Christmas. The picture did not do it justice!

A simple kissing ball tucked into a very plain chandelier. When the lights were on it just sparkled!

My favorite rabbit that I just couldn't put away. All he needed was a little bit of Christmas.

I had very skinny shelves next to my front door and always had trouble decorating them. Last year I kept everything silver and green and created scenes on each shelf with the same snowflake on each to bring them all together.

You can see all of the shelves in the Christmas morning pic.

I hung a small wreath with a bell at the end of each curtain rod.

A favorite Teena Flanner santa standing in a milk glass compote filled with snow and bottlebrush trees.

I hope you found a little inspiration. Have you started decorating yet? I am getting a game plan together. I CAN'T WAIT TO GET STARTED!!!

Best wishes,
Tammy

TRICK OR TREAT!

The kids had a great Halloween, here they are all dressed up and ready to go!

Logan as "Chillsy"
(His little bear "Chillsy" is tucked into his costume)

Emma as a butterfly
Notice her shoes...yes, they are stacking
rings. She wears them as "shoes"...

Kate as a kitty cat. She DID NOT
want to wear her costume at the last
minute!!! This was the best pic I could
get. The costume was very plain so I
added the collar and the sash.
When we got home she wouldn't take it off!

Here they are with their friends watching
trick-or-treaters coming up to the house.

I just thought this was cute!

Emma and her best friend "Hop Hop"
This is the best shot I got of her bunny,
who was also dressed like a butterfly...

Trick-or-Treat!

Our house when we got back.
I hope you had a great Halloween and that it was as magical for you as it was for us!
Best wishes,
Tammy

THE LAST OF HALLOWEEN...

The last of the Halloween decorations...

I just liked how this pic turned out!

Dining room table. I love decorating with
cloche's but they never photograph well!

The chandelier was SO MUCH Fun
to decorate. I added the paper pumpkins
and paper fringe around the candles for
our party.

This is a Bethany Lowe Boo Garland I have had
for a couple of years and have never known exactly
where it should hang. It was on the table and I thought
it might work here. I LOVE IT!!!

I just love my chandelier...

Our appetizer table (I didn't get a pic
with the food...) The pumpkin held a dip
and Bob the Pumpkin Man held a vegetable
dip. I love using decorative things for serving
food. The only hard part is finding the right
size container to fit into each piece...

A happy accident! I had been randomly
hanging odds and ends on the coat rack.

Right inside the front door.

I can't wait to re-do our stair case...

The morning after and the party is over...
